Ollie and Me: Thomas the Engine will ride high

Ollie will be two on December 1, so I am on track to complete his new train table in time for his birthday.

Construction was completed on Thursday and the first coat of primer was applied yesterday before my hockey game. Second coat this afternoon, once my column is finished and the shed is warmed up to 10 degrees.

Maybe a shelf will be added under the eighteen inch high table top for storage.

Ollie has many interests so he’ll need space for engines, books, cars, trucks, toys of all shapes and sizes and now... at least one electric keyboard.

I didn’t tell you Ollie can play the organ?

Oh, the kid has talent.

Man I hope that's 10 degrees Celsius you're talking about!

Great job on the table! I'm sure it will enjoy a place of honor in young Ollie's home for many years... even after his Thomas days are done.

Well done sir!

Yes, it's celsius, for sure, mojo.

i was pleased that there wasn't one squeak or wobble once the legs were added. it's actually on the level!

cheers,

Thank-you for your kind visit to Paul Newman Shirt Days today.

Woodworking is so admirable. My grandfather made my sister and I toy chests amongst other beautiful wooden things throughout our lives. The scent of wood, cedar mostly, and all things woodworking brings his memory closest to me. Especially that soft wood dust.

Lucky, loved, little Ollie! He'll spend hours with his table, and he will know exactly where it came from. Wonderful.

hi christy,

having a small workshop is satisfying on many levels.

now that i'm retired I can experiment, set something out on a bench or the floor and work on it over a few days, feel no rush to clean up until the wood chips fall into my shoes, etc.

and the smell of cedar doesn't get old!

cheers,

The table looks marvelous. Ollie is probably the cutest kid around - except for our Isaac. But Ollie is the cutest 2 year old. Isaac is 3 and a half.

but can Isaac tape out A Whiter Shade of Pale on the keyboard?

Neither can Ollie, bobbie. I'm just dreaming.

Another train fanatic in the making! I bought a great train table for my son but we were so sad when we realized none of his tracks would fit fully on it. So now Zoe, my two year old, uses it for her table dancing numbers.

Hi ATT,

Zoe dances on the table?

very creative use of space, I must say.

Ollie will give it a try I'm sure, then sprawl all over it, as he does on any carpet.

cheers,
