Is Don Cherry a right-wing kook?

The press secretary for Toronto Mayor R. Ford said her office received about 200 calls and emails complaining about Don Cherry’s speech at Ford’s inauguration last week.

No surprise. Cherry’s mention of “pinkos” and “left-wing kooks” was a sure fire way to light up the phone lines.

The press secretary was surprised either and was heard to explain that Ford really likes Cherry because of his “candor and honesty.” (No mention was made of Don’s pink sports jacket made from a few yards of curtain material).

["I ask you. What's this called?"]

Calling people pinkos and kooks relates to candor and honesty?

Really, I’m embarrassed for both Ford and Cherry if that is where their heads are at.

I wouldn’t go so far as to link Cherry’s style of candor and honesty with a special brand of stupidity, or say Don is nothing more than a right-wing kook, but I would say he looks so seriously out of step with the times.

Hockey is one thing. Political and human relations another.

So seriously out of step.
