Motorcycle Miles

Purple Martian Houses

Port Bruce, 60 - 65 kilometres from my front door in London via backroads, is home to more birdhouses than you can shake a stick at. And the most creative, in my opinion, are made by Ed Cahill.

He modified plastic construction helmets, placed them atop metal poles (using hand-operated cranks and cables) to produce an 'other-worldly, spaceship-style' abode for Purple Martins.

Directions:

Drive to Pt. Bruce from Aylmer, Ontario

Turn right at Rush Creek Rd., just before bridge
   at entrance to the village

Drive west 1 kilometre, creek on left

Look for red mailbox on left w 'CAHILL'

Lots of bird activity in Ed's extensive yard, swallows nearest creek, but no martins a week ago Sunday. Maybe now? Go see.
