Catch 22: Another thought about electric cars

Toyota is much in the news lately. Trouble with their cars.

But you know who we haven’t heard much from lately?

The E-car people.

["But what if everybody had one?"]

A year ago there was much discussion about the next big thing, i.e., environmentally friendly electric cars, like the Zenn, that would help us get off fossil fuels.

But I raised questions then and will do so again: What if everybody had one? Would we be better off? Where would the hydro come from? Don’t we produce most of our hydro from coal?

Now, wouldn’t an electric trolley system be better in the long-term?

And I do mean now.

***

I would seldom take the bus or trolley because I live in Wortley Village, three blocks from the corner of Coffee and Hardware, and thus can walk to pick up 95% of my daily needs. But of the two mass transit vehicles, I would choose electric trolley over the bus any day.

["Dundas near Richmond St., London, Ontario. Where is the trolley now?"]

London used to have an E-trolley system too. Did you know that?

Electric cars are great for those who need a car but better as you say an electric trolley system or other public transport or cities laid out so that everyone lived near their workplace and their shops. Good post.

Thank you for your visit, Crafty Green Poet.

Buses (now the size of small nations) squeezed out our trolley system in the 1950s and 60s. Too bad for us.

We backed the wrong horse again.
