It Strikes Me Funny: "non - news newspaper"

["Why? Why?": photo from London Free Press, Jan. 16, 2014]

Yesterday I read the headline re Mayor Rob Ford in The London Free Press and because I'd heard the bones of the story on TV news I came to a snap decision re the local newspaper: It is a non - news newspaper.

Not because it was a day late and a dollar short, so to speak, but because the TV news story was about nothing. A day old story is therefore, by definition, a nothing story times two.

Why is Ford even in the news?  To fill a bit of TV time? To sell a paper or two?

I think so, but he certainly isn't newsworthy.

Why should I buy day old non - news stories?

That's what has got me thinking.
